An e-commerce business uses reports from multiple platforms to inform its operations but has been storing data manually in various formats, which causes inefficiencies and inconsistencies. To optimize their analytical capabilities and drive decision-making, the client required an automated process for regular collection, processing, and consolidation of their data into a unified data warehouse. We streamlined the process of their critical metrics data into a centralized data repository. The final solution helps the client to quickly and accurately assess their business's performance, optimize their operations, and stay ahead of the competition in the dynamic e-commerce landscape.

The client's needs

The Client relies on a multitude of reports from various platforms and markets to inform its operations. These reports encompass a wide range of critical metrics, including:

  • FBA customer returns
  • Fee Preview
  • All Orders
  • Amazon Fulfilled Inventory Report
  • Active Listings Report
  • All Listings Report
  • Manage FBA Inventory
  • Business Report
  • Promotions
  • Monthly Storage Fees. 

Historically, these reports have been manually uploaded daily and stored in disparate formats and locations on the managers' Google Drive. This approach is prone to errors, resource intensive and created inefficiencies and data inconsistencies. 

The client required an automated and streamlined process for regular collection, processing, and consolidation of these reports into a unified database to optimize their analytical capabilities and drive decision-making.

Challenges & solutions

Challenge

Automation and unification of report collection from various e-commerce platforms and resources such as Amazon (US, MX, CA, EU), eBay, Walmart, Shopify, ClickUp, and Sellercloud. Handle currency conversion for reports from different markets (Amazon USA, Canada, Mexico).

Solution

Custom data integration pipelines were developed to perform regular reports collection. This eliminates the need for manual uploads, saving time, and reducing the possibility of errors. We connected to an online resource with currency exchange rates that the client previously used for manual rate conversion, updating the data in the database with the correct exchange rates at the time of transaction.

Challenge

Data processing and data storage. The client wants to ensure consistency and accuracy across all reports, which is difficult to achieve when the data is saved in different formats and locations. Additionally, they need a secure and reliable storage solution for their data that allows for easy querying and analysis.

Solution

We developed custom Python scripts with Airflow workflow management to process the collected data and extract relevant information, such as sales data, customer information, inventory status, and fees. We cleaned and standardized the data, ensuring consistency across all reports. We created a unified BigQuery database to store all the collected and processed data in a structured format. The database can be easily queried to extract information, and historical data can be easily accessed and analyzed.

The client now has an automated and streamlined process for the regular collection, processing, and consolidation of their critical metrics data into a centralized database. This database also contains historical data from previous years that was stored by the client. This approach has enabled a comprehensive and unified view of the business's performance. 

With our solutions, the client can quickly and accurately assess their business's performance, optimize their operations, and stay ahead of the competition in a dynamic e-commerce landscape.
