THE CHALLENGE
As the franchise expanded, leadership lacked a consistent, consolidated view of performance across locations. Fragmented data and slow reporting were compounded by limitations in the existing solution, which required correction and extension. The business needed a scalable reporting system that could replace unreliable processes and support confident executive decision-making.
Franchise data was stored in deeply nested, multi-level structures with inconsistent formats, making it difficult to extract, join, and analyze data efficiently. This complexity slowed reporting, increased the risk of errors, and limited the ability to scale analytics as new locations were added.
AWS Lambda was triggered each time a store uploaded data to an S3 bucket. Because stores sent data at different times, the function was firing multiple times per day, creating a risk of duplicate processing and inefficient runs. Historical data was not updated, so the system needed to process only new data—once and correctly.
Sales reports were built on inconsistent formulas and assumptions, leading to mismatched numbers across dashboards. Some existing reports did not fully reflect actual business performance, creating confusion and reducing trust in the data at the executive level.
THE SOLUTION
We built a scalable reporting system that unified franchise data across all locations and delivered executive dashboards. A clean data model and reliable processing ensured accurate, consistent insights without duplication.
We analyzed the full data structure and designed a high-performance, analytics-ready data model based on best practices. Complex, multi-level data was normalized and standardized into clear, structured tables optimized for speed and accuracy. The resulting model was purpose-built for seamless dashboard integration, enabling fast visual reporting, instant data updates, and scalable analytics as new franchise locations are added.
Sales dashboards required precise calculations, but existing formulas produced inconsistent results across reports. We audited all sales logic, reconciled formulas with real business outcomes, and corrected inaccuracies in existing reports. As a result, dashboards now reflect validated, consistent sales metrics, giving leadership a single source of truth for performance tracking and decision-making.
We configured Lambda logic to process incremental data only, ensuring each execution handled new uploads without reprocessing existing records. By enforcing idempotent runs and clear execution boundaries, the system eliminated duplication, improved efficiency, and delivered reliable, event-driven data ingestion aligned with the client’s operating model.
